TOM LITTLER: FIRST EPISODE
It's not the first time we've spoken to Primavera Productions, an award winning company which focuses on reviving forgotten and neglected plays, and I feel sure it won't be the last. I've always been very interested in new plays, and the development of those new plays, but it also makes me sad to think how many older, yet still brilliant and relevant pieces, are left behind as we move forward. I have always been a big fan of Terrence Rattigan, and it's his first play, 'First Episode' that the company are currently staging at Jermyn Street, a venue known for its commitment to reviving older theatrical masterpieces as well as also bringing newer work to the stage. I sent some questions over to Tom Littler, director of this production, and artistic director of Primavera. You can read the interview here.

'First Episode' is on at Jermyn Street Theatre until 22 Nov, see more info on the venue website here, and book tickets right about here.
FRIDAY 31 OCTOBER 2014 >>
COMEDY: The Scary Halloween Show w/ Sara Pascoe + Beard | The Invisible Dot | 31 Oct
A Hallows' Eve splattered with gross jokes and harrowing join-in games (with horrible horrible prizes for the doomed winers), the last of the Invisible Dot's Scary Halloween Shows for this year stars superlative quick-wit and character actress Sara Pascoe, "extremely talented" friends Rosa Robson and Matilda Wnek's hairy sketch act Beard, plus the equally brill (and evil, deranged, etc) Ali Bryce and Beth Vyse. Details and tickets here.

FILM/MUSIC: Frizzi 2 Fulci | Barbican | 31 Oct (pictured)
A classic Halloween alternative to tacky vampire fangs and 'sexy' skeleton onesies, the Barbican's chill-tastic homage to master-movie-soundtrackist Fabio Frizzi and his blood brother in film, Italian director and 'Godfather Of Gore' Lucio Fulci, with a night of screenings of the pair's greatest collaborative horror hits, not least 'Zombie Flesh Eaters', 'Seven Notes In Black' and 'Manhattan Baby'. Live scores to all movies are provided by the F2F house orchestra, Alauda String Quartet and various vocalists. Details and tickets here.

MUSIC: Evian Christ Trance Party III | Corsica Studios | 31 Oct
Wavey beatsmith-to-Kanye, Evian Christ, re-teams with promotions firm Oscillate Wildly to present his third in a series of Trance Party nights, this scarily strong-looking one featuring Christ B2B with Mssingno, as well as Total Freedom, Nguzunguzu, Boothroyd, Danny L Harle, and probably a smoke machine. Details and tickets here.
SATURDAY 1 NOVEMBER 2014 >>

COMEDY: Live At the Chapel w/ Pajama Men + Joe Wilkinson | Union Chapel | 1 Nov
It's always a carefree PJ party with "infinitely clever and endlessly entertaining" ThisWeek-interviewees Pajama Men, headliners of this incarnation of the Invisible Dot's Live At The Chapel, which also boasts nightclub-style PAs by Joe Wilkinson (aka the strangest thing to hit 'Countdown' since... erm, ever), Mae Martin, and Brett Goldstein. Details and tickets here.

MUSIC: MØ | Shepherd's Bush Empire | 1 Nov (pictured)
Stage-diving, ponytail-whipping Danish popstar-with-bite Karen Marie Ørsted shows off 'No Mythologies To Follow', her stone-cold brilliant first LP, with support from rising Brit singer Raleigh Ritchie (aka part-time actor Jacob Anderson, who plays Greyworm in 'Game Of Thrones'). Details and tickets here.

THEATRE: Red Like Embers – Contemporary Voices From Brazil | Theatre 503 | until 1 Nov
Brazil is a nation that does nothing by halves; and its diversity is here represented in a carnival parade of plays written from the heart of Latin America's most sensual land, as are featured on an instalment of the ThisWeek Podcast. Multi-award-winning dramatists like Jo Bilac, Newton Moreno and Marcia Zanelatto, as well as a rich seam of emerging writers, directors and actors, present a spread of uniquely-Brazilian works taking on the universal topics of sexuality, politics, religion and violence. Details and tickets here.
SUNDAY 2 NOVEMBER 2014 >>

COMEDY: Catriona Knox Thinks She's Hard Enough | Pleasance Theatre | 2 Nov (pictured)
Ace character comedian Catriona Knox dives headfirst into a fancy dress box of "perfectly-pitched" personas in her top-reviewed, audience-interaction-heavy latest solo show; which features a recession-era TV chef, a crazed psychologist giving a TED talk, and a princely first birthday party. Details and tickets here.

COMEDY/SPOKEN WORD: Dead Funny | Bloomsbury Theatre | 2 Nov
Robin Ince and Johnny Mains – co-editors of 'Dead Funny', a new book of short horror stories by comedians, co-host this series of live readings and deathly lite entertainment by many of the writers featured in the grisly tome. Josie Long, Charlie Higson, Stewart Lee, Steve Pretty, Joanna Neary, and Mains and Ince themselves, are all in the bag so far, with more shadowy figures still TBA. Details and tickets here.

MUSIC: Peggy Sue & The Choir Of Echoes | Bussey Building | 2 Nov
Gnarly girl-girl-boy folkists Peggy Sue celebrate their hale and hearty third LP 'Choir Of Echoes' with, for one show, a real-life Choir Of Echoes comprised of covers band Deep Throat. The event, which takes place via this year's London-wide Illuminations fest, will begin with a solo set by theatrical singer Jesca Hoop, and will feature live improv by beatboxing/DJ-ing/composing man machine Cosmo Sheldrake. Details and tickets here.
MONDAY 3 NOVEMBER 2014 >>
COMEDY: Bridget Christie - An Ungrateful Woman | Battersea Arts Centre | 3 Nov - 15 Dec
All-star comedian (and winner of last year's Edinburgh Comedy Award) Bridget Christie chases her beautifully biting 'A Bic For Her' – a show owing everything to the daily grind of pedestrian sexism - with 'An Ungrateful Woman', in which she highlights the awful practice of female genital mutilation; plus more trivial sidelines like salads and... Michael Gove. Details and tickets here.

COMEDY: Knightmare Live - Level 2 | Lyric Theatre | 3 Nov
Following a massively over-attended stint at the Edinburgh Fringe, this roaming stage adaptation of long-dead kids' TV show 'Knightmare' is back in the capital, featuring a cast captained by Tom Bell as Lord Fear, not to mention lo-fi challenges, slapstick action, and a pair of scared-looking comedians as contestants. Details and tickets here.

DANCE: Akram Khan + Israel Galván – Torobaka | Sadler's Wells | 3-8 Nov (pictured)
Dance artist and kathak choreographer Akram Khan and a great of contemporary flamenco - the award-winning Israel Galván - collaborate to form 'Torobaka', a work that finds the pair defying classification to create a distinct combination of both's go-to styles. Details and tickets here.
TUESDAY 4 NOVEMBER 2014 >>

COMEDY: Lost Treasures Of The Black Heart w/ Josie Long + Nathaniel Metcalfe | The Black Heart | 4 Nov
It's all thrills, spills and comic spoils at The Black Heart tavern in Camden as Josie Long presides over another edition of her highly-decorated 'Lost Treasures' night, which is manned by cabin boy (and hilariously quippy stand-up) Nathaniel Metcalfe, and a crew of TBA guest acts. Details and tickets here.

MUSIC: Rosie Lowe | Concrete | 3 Nov
Rich-voiced synth-pop ladio Rosie Lowe spills her dark-dappled new track 'Water Came Down', and earlier singles, ahead of the TBA LP from which it came, which itself is set to be released 'soon' via Adele's right hand man Paul Epworth's Wolf Tone label. Details and tickets here.

THEATRE: The Frida Kahlo Of Penge West | Bridge House Theatre | 4-23 Nov (pictured)
A one-woman play inside a two-woman play (if you catch my meta-drift), writer-director Chris Larner's dark and quick-witted 'Frida Kahlo...' is the story of Zoe, whose quiet life is erm... amplified when an old friend (vain, ambitious out-of-work actor Ruth) decides to stage a drama based on the life of a certain fiery Mexican painter. Details and tickets here.
WEDNESDAY 5 NOVEMBER 2014 >>

COMEDY: Kieran Hodgson - French Exchange | Pleasance Theatre | 5 Nov (pictured)
On "hilarious and frankly horrifying" form at his last show - the "tour de force" that was 'Flood' – versatile character comedian Kieran Hodgson rings in his latest creation, 'French Exchange', by sharing with 'l'histoire' of a 2003 school trip to stay with a family in France. Details and tickets here.

FESTIVAL: Currency | The Place | 5-15 Nov
A 'bonkers' performance festival to tweak the mind and senses; The Place's Currency will, in 2014, feature two wildly differing shows per night in the main theatre, and on the side, a series of 'Blind Dates' between British performers, 'in conversation' events, and food-and-art-based titillation c/o interactive cafe Hunt & Darton. Shaping the first-night are 'Bruit De Couloir' (a slow-motion 'celebration of life' by French circus/dance artist Clément Dazin), and Finnish pairing Anna Maria Häkkinen & Jarkko Partanen's 'Dig My Jockey', an erotic look at fetishes, with an equine twist. Details and tickets here.

THEATRE: Longwave | Shoreditch Town Hall | until 8 Nov
A play articulated totally sans words; writer/director Chris Goode's 100% silent 'Longwave' is the bleakly comic story of two scientist (played by Tom Lyall and Jamie Wood) living together in a shed, in the middle of nowhere. Details and tickets here.
THURSDAY 6 NOVEMBER 2014 >>
COMEDY: Weirdos All-Star Comedy Fundraiser | Camden Head | 6 Nov
A drive for donations towards fairly odd comic lot Weirdos' Christmas charity pantomime; this tight-fitting fundraiser in the um... 'intimate' back room of the Camden Head features Weirdos' greatest hitters John Kearns, Lou Sanders, Ben Target, Adam Larter, Joz Norris, Matthew Highton and... more. Details and tickets here.

THEATRE/DANCE: Dancer | Battersea Arts Centre | 6-8 Nov (pictured)
Created by late theatre trailblazer Adrian Howells, this highly-praised softly pokes and prods at the idea of what it is to be a 'Dancer' (dahling) via Ian and Gary, two ordinary blokes happy to dance any time day or night; in jerky, camp and ethereal style, moving both visibly and invisibly. Details and tickets here.

THEATRE: 2071 | Royal Court Theatre | 6-15 Nov
A cross-collaboration by ace, experimental playwright/director pairing Duncan Macmillan and Katie Mitchell, and world-leading scientist Chris Rapley too; '2071' looks at the bearing climate change, and the ongoing population boom, is having on the planet. "Climate change is a matter of importance to everyone, but what to do about it is mired in controversy. What's needed is a conversation. What do we owe future generations? How can we protect our children and grandchildren?", asks the playbill. Details and tickets here.
